One Focus, On Purpose

One area of law. That is the point.

Family law is personal. It touches your kids, your home, your money, and your sense of safety. We made the choice a long time ago to do this work and nothing else, because being good at it takes full attention.

You are not getting a corporate lawyer who also takes the occasional divorce. You are getting attorneys who live in this work every day, who know the Northern Virginia courts, the judges, and the small details that change outcomes.

Whatever brought you here, divorce, custody, an emergency protective order, or just planning ahead with a will, we have probably handled a case that looks like yours. That experience is yours to use the moment you walk in.

Just family law. All of it.

  • Divorce in every form
  • Custody, visitation, and support
  • Mediation and collaborative options
  • Military divorce and federal rules
  • Protective orders when safety is on the line
  • Special needs cases
  • Wills and basic estate planning

What practice areas does NOVA Legal Professionals handle?

NOVA Legal Professionals handles family law and divorce, and only family law and divorce. That includes divorce in every form (contested, uncontested, collaborative, and military), separation, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, special needs cases, protective orders, mediation, and wills. The firm has more than fifty years of combined experience and serves clients throughout Northern Virginia.

Where does NOVA Legal Professionals practice in Virginia?

NOVA Legal Professionals has three offices: Fairfax (main office at 4122 Leonard Drive), Manassas (9071 Center Street), and Fredericksburg (1127 International Parkway). The firm represents clients across nine Northern Virginia counties, including Fairfax, Prince William, Arlington, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline, King George, and Fauquier.

What is the difference between mediation and collaborative divorce?

Mediation uses one neutral attorney to help both spouses reach an agreement, and the spouses may or may not have their own lawyers. Collaborative divorce gives each spouse their own attorney, and everyone signs an agreement to settle out of court. Mediation is usually faster and less expensive. Collaborative divorce is more structured and brings in financial and parenting experts when needed.

Do I need a lawyer for an uncontested divorce in Virginia?

Virginia does not require you to hire a lawyer for an uncontested divorce, but most people benefit from one. An attorney makes sure your separation agreement covers property, support, custody, and the small details that often cause problems later. An hour of advice up front is usually cheaper than fixing a missed issue afterward.

How long does a divorce take in Virginia?

A no-fault divorce in Virginia requires you to live separate and apart for at least one year, or six months if you have no minor children and have a signed separation agreement. Once that waiting period is over, an uncontested divorce can be finalized within a few weeks. A contested divorce can take twelve to eighteen months or longer, depending on the issues involved.
